I have just been like one of my chickens today and have just scratched around all day -striving for a goal and I am so tired that IF I had to fly up to a roost , I would never make it.

I worked in DH's room attempting to clean out the spot where I put two of my flowers in a window that they actually make it through the Winter in. It was a shelf that is about two feet wide by 8 feet long. I took EVERYTHING off of it and cleaned and sorted and eliminated a few things because the flowers had dripped water on them . Darn?

This time I am being a little smarter and have put a piece of vinyl across the top shelf , so that hopefully will not happen again.:) When I finally had everything sorted into piles DH came in from working outside and we  had a sandwich. When I went back to work and saw the whole bed covered up entirely -I was so tired that I knew it would challenge me to keep on going. :)

But, by the time that I had finished -it was now time for almost anybody to head to the roost, because night was coming on fast. I managed to fight with my flower and drag it in the house and Heave it up on the shelf. I sure was glad that I had put new screws in the supports! Then I stood back to check it out and had to laugh because it had certainly grown while out in the garden vacation this time and it was now hitting the top of the ceiling -bending over like it was eyeballing me. LOL

I went back out and fought with the lime tree and was VERY careful not to hit on one of those thorns.! I had accomplished my goal - only to discover that I still have about 6 plants yet to figure out when they will find to reside for the Winter.

I decided to boogie outdoors and check evening chores. My first stop was at the guinea pigs. I first had guinea pigs when I was about 8 years old when one of my classmates brought me one on the school bus. For some reason that started almost a lifetime relationship.

As you can see, they are full of themselves. When you go through the door they start whistling to let you know they need some attention. Here they have just finished up with the apples I had given them. No wonder they are called pigs - they really know how to eat all the time. :)

I circled up by the little chickens house and checked to make sure everybody is accounted for. This time last year I had 27 in this little house and then somebody came while DH and I were at the park walking and stole everyone of them. It really broke my heart. I had a little rooster in that batch that  looked like somebody had thrown a paint bucket at him - they are called a splash - and I totally adored him.

I was so tired now that I was in "robot mode" but I went to the pasture and picked some greens for the guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are like us humans and they have to have a fresh supply of vitamin C every day. Looks like everybody is ok now -so I head into the house to fix some supper.

I picked up the little bag of potatoes and started dicing them into a pot , turn it on -knowing it will take about 20 minutes for the potatoes to be done . I add tablespoon of butter, salt and pepper and a can of peas and let it cook. When they are done I add the milk and cornstarch to thicken it.  To go with it - I fix cornbread. I don't know IF both of us was starving or not -but we both thought that was some real comfort food!

  1. What a nice post! I really enjoy your animal stories and now I can visualize them even better. You really do have your hands full taking care of all your critters. I am sure they must love you and that's why they squeal when they see you. ;) That's awful someone would come in a steal your chickens. Do you think a coyote or some other critter came in and ate them all?
