Happy Mother's Day 2011

Have you noticed that each day is a little slice of our history? Then each day has a little twisty , turney path it takes.Sometimes up one hill -or - down another.
When my DH was a little boy one day his Mama went down to the little unfinished basement to get something -but her attention was diverted by a little container with beautiful flowers in it. She had never seen this before so she asked DH if he knew where they came from?

He said, yes- that he had picked them from a neighbor's flowers. She told him that it was wrong to steal and she marched him right over to the neighbor's to apologize to her. She listened to him and then told his Mama - do not punish that child. IF he cared enough to place them in water -then she did not mind at all to share with him.

So, today my DH raided my flowers and brought the bouquet to me for Mother's Day. I gathered up supplies to put them in water and I thought of his history with flowers. It is hard to be upset with someone who raids your flowers when it is done out of love.

This was the start of them and you know how much I LOVE this iris -so for a minute it was the "STAR" of the show.

Then it ended up looking like this.Pooh it just does not show up in this picture. Me and this camera have an on again - off again relationship. :)

My next adventure was to pull out some more of my treasures -searching for what my next mug rug will be??

Sometimes deciding who will go with  what can be the hardest part of the  project?????

But then the day took a different turn as the kids showed up. This is our grandson , baby Emmett and this young man is James -the guardian angel to DH and I . He is the one who gave up his every Sunday through the Winter to come and cut our firewood and haul it in. He is an angel indeed in my book.

Bad picture of our youngest son with his Baby Emmett.

A terrible picture of our lovely #2 daughter-in-law. She is so lovely with her jet black hair. I am so very blessed to have these young people in my life - and maybe one of these days I will end up with a camera that takes better pictures.:)
Emmett spoiled me - he brought me two beautiful fuchsias and a box of candy. I could not help myself from getting into the candy . There was a pocket with chocolate covered nuts and when my greedy little hand went visiting there - it slipped through my fingers because the hot sun had melted the chocolate. LOL I had a box of "Liquid chocolates"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Bet you have never had that flavor before! LOL

So, Happy Mother's Day to All ! And to all a Good Night!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Weekend Here Already?

Well, my crew was up and at it early this morning and after morning chores I went in to fix us something to eat. I fixed biscuits for us and I had strawberries with them and DH had eggs with his. Then we decided that we must go to town He needed a new pair of shoes because his was "blown - out" all over. They were really pitiful.I told him they would cost him 45.00, but he would not believe me. He still lives in the 10.00 life. He had to see it himself and then he left and after looking in town and seeing nothing he liked he went back to the same store (because he has two other pair of this brand and style and knew they would not hurt his feet.). He was lucky as they had taken 5.00 off. Every five dollars counts.

Then I hit the fruit stand and got strawberries and canalopes and our first watermelon of the year. I was just Dieing for fruit of any kind.

We boogied on home and I had sewing on my mind-but -Surprise ! - our youngest son and his wife and 6 month old baby were there working on their vehicle. Of course Emmett was having trouble doing anything that requires bending because of his back. Those two more slipped discs are giving him so much pain. Meagan was beautiful and the baby is so precious. He is really alert and watching everything and his little facial expressions are priceless. His Mom has a bad back too -so it is a challenge. We all took turns passing him around for awhile and then I got a quilt and put him down on it. He held his little head up better than I can and he was trying so hard to crawl - and ended up going in circles pushing with one leg more than the other one. His PawPaw came in and laid down on the quilt with him and they had a good romp. Baby Emmett tugged and pulled until he got Pawpaw's watch off to play with.

After they left I grabbed up my project and experimented with the "quilting technique". I had a heart design in mind. Not having a clue as to how it would work out - I just went with the flow-since there are no mistakes with these fun mug rugs. :)

It was a fun experiment -so since I was having so much fun I decided to try something different on the second one?

It makes me think of looking out a window onto the flowers. . Either way I like them both and it was fun just to be creative. :)

I just wanted to wish Every Mom a Happy Mother's Day!
Love to all

Hello Friday Evening Blog Family

Have you noticed that another week has just blown past us? I think it is sad that it has to go so fast.

But, at least I made time to enjoy the beauty . I had to laugh because Val on "Life's Little Garden" had just posted about her little Clematis also. There is a little saying that I enjoy that says ,"A thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever".

After I got mine to finally live after years of trying -my friend got her one too. But mine quits blooming at the end of Spring and hers starts up then. I would definitely have more of them if Money was not a problem. :)

We did a lot of running today. You should have seen our little car- it was plum full from the bottom to the top. We had to get our feed and flour for this month and also pick up some things for our oldest son who was in the hospital today. I was good and ready to finally get home.

The feed is still in the vehicle as DH and I were running in different directions with evening chores. I wanted to pop in and check on my blog family .

But then I also jumped on picking out the colors for the next mug rug. This is two more small pieces that were given to me and I just wanted to see what I could turn it into.

Opps- someone is out in the driveway blowing. Darn!
Catch you tomorrow.

Blue Girls and lovely irises!

This is one of my Favorite colors of my chickens. When the chicken thieves swiped most of my flock two summers ago they took all but one of my "blue - girls"-as I call them. I am slowly working to build them back up. I think I have 3 now and I have Mama chickens that have decided to set -so I am letting them go ahead and hoping for some more "blues"! :)

I am sorry I did not post last night. We had gone back to W.VA. and DH had helped fix brother-in-law's truck and I had gone to be moral support to my sister-in-law who had to go back to the doctor for terrible pain in her leg that she thought was from shots in her leg she had received the day before. I hate to see anybody suffer with pain. They did xrays on her and found arthritis and bursitis and gave her a pain shot and pain pills. I asked the doctor how was he going to get the muscles to relax(because he said they were too tight) and he gave me one of those "deer in the headlight looks"? He said he could not manipulate muscles that were in that shape. I told him that the pain meds were just "a bandage"  -how could they work to fix it to where she was not in pain all the time-AND - he had NO ideas. I was amazed. I guess I just look at things differently from doctors ?????

We came home late and I was pooped already. I did my chores after dark and it was just too late to post.

It was just SO nice this morning to just be able to enjoy home. I stopped by this lovely iris just to tell it how lovely it was on my way to do morning chores. Plus, it SMELLED so divine! I cannot imagine how my Father can create every little detail so perfectly.

I did get the morning chores completely -then feed us. After cleaning up that mess I headed to the desk to tackle the "Bills" for this month. It always seems to take forever to tackle this job. Probably because I hate it. It is SO hard to figure out how to  "stretch each penny" - and yes it did take all afternoon. I am hoping to get them mailed out tomorrow and get that burden off of my shoulders.

Then it was time to finish outside chores . There was a crisp chill in the air so I had to put on a little lightweight jacket . By the time I finished I had about 20 minutes to tackle a evening walk. I know that is not much - but I know I have to start somewhere. I was so tired by the time I got back in the house that I just took a break and watched a program on tv with DH.

Now it is past my bedtime and I still have a pile of clothes on my bed that I will have to put up.So, I better go tackle that . I hope you have had a lovely day too! Each one is so special - I just wish they did not have to go so fast. :)

Out of Kilter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does my world like to get SO out of kilter at times???? Sometimes I wish I could just be one of my chickens because chickens are like me and seem to appreciate a little "order" in their lives. Except for the little problem about EVERYTHING in the world seems to like to EAT chicken-that is the one major problem that chickens have! :)

Take today for example-we had got up early and I did all my chores . Then we headed out of W.VA. for DH to help his brother in law fix his truck. They did good until the last little part was broken . They went to town to the local auto parts stores and none of them had the part in stock and they had to order it.Be there first thing in the morning.

DH suggests we stay overnight -get the part first thing -finish the truck and be on our way. Now I know that life Usually throws curve balls and I could see all kind of things that could go wrong - plus I have my critters to take care of and I did not want to endanger any of them - so I begged to come home. We did and will go back in the morning . We had  a pouring down rain and our creek was getting up a little . It felt so good to be home . I ran out and did evening chores and am now tying up loose ends that are important to me. I hate that feeling of being turned upside down. I emailed my counselor to cancel my meeting tomorrow -so that way DH will not feel pushed to get us back in Virginia in time for my session. and IF something should go wrong then I will not have to worry about wasting my counselor's time.

Complications, complications!

O! You might get a laugh out of this. ! My sister-in-law showed me a pair of shorts I had made her for Christmas and I had sewn one of the pockets in BACKWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  LOL - Now that was the first time for that!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

A : Columbine Beauty

Nothing like a beautiful gift from our Father to always bring a smile to my face the very first thing. What a gift to pump up your attitude the very first thing - kinda like taking a vitamin pill. It even let's my mind function better and helps me see my day more clearly and gratefully.

It was really nice to go out and do morning chores on such a perfect day. Lots of fresh air and wonderful smells.DH was gone to go  help our oldest son who is in pure misery after having surgery over a week ago and catching some kind of flu at the same time. I think it has been too long for him to suffer-running a fever and everything. But, that is just a "MOM'S" opinion.

When I went to let the chooks out -Miss Harmony was one of the first ones out the door in her search for the perfect breakfast. I have not had her but about 3 weeks.DH's brother brought his grandson to hunt one Sat. and he brought her to me. He lives in a small town and he had saved her from a dog that had attacked her around his house. They nursed her back to health and figured she was lonely and would enjoy some "chicken-company" and I do believe they were right. His brother's name is Harmon -but since she is a lady  I went with Harmony -so as not to insult her. :)

Of course Miss Dixie Doodles made the trek Along with me . Wonderful company. That is the good thing about having a "crew of furbabies". If one gets tired of putting up with you - someone else is aways ready to take on that responsibility

.I finally got it all accomplished and headed into the quiet of the "magic room". I had actually cut this one out already and went ahead and sewed it all up -then I investigated a DIFFERENT  quilting stitch from the one I did before this one -but I Really think I like this one. Amazing how much a different quilting stitch changes out the basic mug rug. I have got a different idea for my next one I do- it is just fun to watch them unfold and take on their own personality. :)

What a totally beautiful day, even if it was dark and dreary This is one of my little flowers that I Almost did not have to enjoy because I thought it was a weed . But, just out of curiosity I let it be - telling myself I could always dig it up later -after I had satisfied my curiosity- which now I am so grateful that I listened to my own advice !:)It might be small-but I to me is is breath taking.

I had managed to decide which would be my next project. This is a piece of fabric that my dear friend , Ruth had given to me in a little bag of scrapes. Since she will be 91 soon I thought it might get a smile out of her to see something she had saved so many years ago

But then DH came along and asked me outdoors and you know how that goes-once outdoors with so much work and for him to be in the mood to work - I did not want to discourage him in any way. He pulled up 4 medium sized trees that had died. The last one was at the corner of the house and it made a big mess. About then I was very disheartened because it tore up some flowers that Ruth had given me a few years back. My flowers are Very important to me because it is a miracle to me to have them.

But , needless to say we worked outdoors all afternoon. Then DH went to mow a hill beside the house and I went to gather eggs. Several of the hens are sitting and when you peek in they get so very upset at anyone that interferes with their privacy. They all fuzz up and fuss at the top of their little lungs. I get so tickled at them and the ones that are the meanest I always ruffle their little topnots and that really insults them.

I was thinking how fast our time goes and it made me think of how we work so hard to get some things and then we are too busy to enjoy it and also to appreciate it .

So I trotted off to the house to get my camera because one of the things that I do enjoy is my chickens. I do see them when I gather the eggs or feed and water them - but to get to spend time with them is not that often.

So, dog gone it, I changed it this afternoon. I sat and watched them for a good half hour. I always get tickled at their antics. This little white rooster I think is just as handsome as he thinks he is. Then little hen I adore because she is a "splash" because of her "paint job" LOL.She is the second one I have ever had -the little rooster was stolen from me two summers ago and it broke my heart. I got lucky to have Lady Splash because she was in a different building.

This is Lady Splash's best friend . They were rooming together when the others were stolen and I am so grateful to have her too. She has feathers down her legs . She makes me think of little ole ladies wearing pantaloons .

I know that I try to do right by my little flock -and everytime we are on the road and one of those poultry trucks passes us flying with white feathers flying out all over the place-it just breaks my heart to know what a terrible end they are headed for. Throats slit or being electrocuted  and I wish I could change the world for all of them.  When things go bad  here  - like  a  hawk or a racoon or a opossum or that sneaky little hoot owl - it breaks my heart. I once told my girl friend that it was hard to keep a chicken because  it seemed like Everything in the world liked to eat chicken!

So when I can see mine outdoors playing in the sun and scratching for the tastiest worm it always puts a smile on my face to know that just at that moment life is good between me and my gals.:)
